1. (positive spin) Warm, casual greeting at a rare or unexpected encounter; also, upon belated recognition.
Examples:

b. Oh, ‘EY!!! Ass’ you, Kaleo? Cheee, you wuz runnin’ around in diapahz las’ time I seen you!

2. (negative spin) Sharp warning when witnessing an infraction of social mores or breach of etiquette.
Examples:
a. ‘EY!!! Stop wearin’ my slippahs, gunfunnit! Ainokea if somebody wen’ take yours one!

2. Calling someone out when they say something you possibly don’t agree with or surprising.
3. Also see ‘HUUUI!!!’.
