(en DEN), interrogative (variant of English “And then?”)

1. A conversational prompt (i.e. “So what happened next?”) used when the speaker’s message takes longer than the listener expects, or includes minutiae irrelevant to the message.

Example:

1st guy: So, we wuz in line at Rainbow’s, and I seen one guy drive up who looked like my cousin’s neighbor’s auntie’s grandson, except bruddah was mo’ skinny and his hair was mo’ ehu, plus he was driving one bus’ up Toyota truck, and he like only American cars, and I neva recognize the chick he was with, and she wen’ call him J-boy, so I wuzn’t sure cuz da guy’s name is Keone…

2nd guy: AN’ DEN?

2. A somewhat mocking comment (i.e. “So?”) belittling a statement as inconsequential or irrelevant.

Example:

1st girl: Eh, check dis out: Starbucks Kahala Mall gon’ close!

2nd girl: AN’ DEN? Like I gon’ waste gas fo’ go Kahala Mall drink $5 coffee?
